| 4-H State Award Program
Llama has been added to the 4-H State Award Program and is
sponsored by the Michigan Lama Association!
The Michigan State 4-H Awards Program is an opportunity for 4-Hers
aged 13 and up, with three or more years of experience in 4-H, to meet new friends, gain leadership skills,
perfect interviewing skills, improve writing skills, build self-esteem, and compete for
recognitions in more than 30 project areas including
llamas.
The Michigan State 4-H Awards Program includes
county, regional, and state level competition. Awards
program participants submit completed individual or
group awards application forms to their county MSU Extension staff by March 3. The applications are
evaluated on the county level and submitted to regional
competition. Regional winners are selected by early
April. Regional winners then compete for state honors.
State winners are selected during the 4-H Awards Assembly,
held at
MSU during 4-H Exploration Days in June. Selection
is based on the
awards application and an interview. Winners
are announced at the
4-H Awards Celebration, which is held on the Thursday night of 4-H
Exploration Days.
Regional winners in the Michigan 4-H Awards Program receive
certificates of accomplishment. State winners receive $100 cash
awards and plaques. The State 4-H Awards Program is a great way to
meet others from across the state who are active in the same 4-H
projects. Encourage your 4-Hers to participate in the future!

The MLA Scholarship
In fall of 2003, the MLA board approved the development of an annual
scholarship program. The intent of this award is to help members and
their families offset a portion of educational expenses for
vocational and academic training beyond high school. This program is
funded through the Llamfest silent auction and will be administered
by the MLA board or its appointed agency.
The scholarship consists of a $500.00 stipend given to the student(s)
chosen by a selection committee determined by the MLA board. It will
be presented at the spring membership meeting or in conjunction with
Lamafest 2004.
Once awarded, the scholarship would be renewable by application for
any year a student attends an institution granting skill
certification, associate, undergraduate or graduate degrees. A
student would be eligible to renew the scholarship a maximum of
three times during his/her academic career.
The number of scholarship awards and/or renewals will be determined
annually. This determination will be made by the board or its
appointed agency based on the funds available, the number of
applicants and the selection process.
